There is another typhoon heading our way. Right now it's in the Philippines. Please pray for them.
It is slow moving at 3 knots per hour. If it keeps its course, then it will be here in Okinawa on Thursday (I think). God bless. We're back in the blog world for now.

Married Couple's Valentine's Dinner

This Sunday night we had our Valentine's Dinner for the married couples. It was a real blessing and a lot of fun. It was a great turn out, we had 40 couples come out for our special event which included dinner, games, an encouraging message and more fun games. I wasn't able to get around to all the tables to take pictures (sorry). Everyone looked great and the Lord blessed us with a wonderful night.
The youth group and a few fearless adults helped to watch the kids for everyone as a fund-raiser for their missions trip to the Philippines. Thank you Lord for a wonderful night!

CC Okinawa Men's Conference

Some of the guys got together today to watch the 2010 CC Men's Conference (Southern California) DVDs. We were blessed with a great time of fellowship and great teaching from God's Word. We watched 9 of the 12 teachers and had a full day strengthened as men of God.

Kadena Chapel hosts local pastors

This past Tuesday, the Kadena Air Base Chaplains hosted a fellowship lunch with tour of the F-15’s. A group of local pastors were blessed to attend. We got to sit in the cockpit of the F-15! too fun. It was a good time to see the other brothers that are ministering for the Lord on Okinawa.

During the summers off from college, Jessica comes home and has blessed us over the years by leading in worship for us on Sunday mornings. God has given her a beautiful gift and we are so grateful she has been willing to serve everytime and bless us all.

Jessica's sister, Jennifer and her son, JJ came back home too for a visit. JJ and Ben-Ben would make a great tag-team WWE team some day in the near future (maybe next year?). It's always great to see the girls with mom, Makiko-san.

We were also super blessed by a visit from the Schultz'. Rob and Becky are retired from the Navy now and are serving on the mission field. They came one Sunday and shared the neat things that God is doing in and through them. They have become very dear friends of ours and we are excited for them in this new venture of faith. ( I guess Jessica was thirsty)

Yahoo... look who's back! Yasutomo, Juan, Stomer, Yasuromo, Miyagi-san... whatever you want to call him... add driving school boy to your list. Stomer's back for a bit from college in Tokyo and is taking classes for his driver's license. I wonder what name he will use for his license and if he will break Japanese culture and smile big for the photo like he is here with Roy. It's great to have our brother back.

PCS season stinks

Every summer, we experience something the military calls "PCS season". PCS stands for Permanent Change of Station (at least I think so) and every year, there are a good handful of families that come and there are good handful of families that leave us- that's the stinky part. If we had our way, we'd keep everyone with us. Over the years, we have been so blessed with some incredible folks that love the Lord and have served Him here with us and this year was no exception.
We said "see you later" to the Wayman's and to the Coates' on this day.

We got to dedicate baby Noah this Sunday. God blessed Andre and Regina with a baby while they were here - and they thought they were done! Ha! Lisa Freeman's smiling the most right now. :)

We're going to miss the Coates. Ryan, Brandess and Caleb - we love you guys and will be praying for the newest member of the Coates family. Thank you for everything and always letting us use your house! Send some pics when baby arrives!

Asiah mini concert

We were so blessed a few Wednesdays back when Asiah came and did a mini-concert for us here at Calvary Okinawa.
She was on island for a series of concerts and outreaches but was gracious enough to stop by and bless us.
Enri translated for her into English even though Asiah is bilingual. Enri and her have been friends from gradeschool.
Enri was our connect to having Asiah come :)

Look it's our very good friend and bro in Christ, Pastor Vee from Daichi Baptist Church. It's always a joy to see our brother and to hear of the great things God is doing in and through his ministry on Okinawa.

Josh was invited to play for a special song and did a great job. We had a great night where God was glorified through all that was sung and shared. Thank you Asiah for blessing us!

God blessed us with a good, dedicated group of folks that came out to help transform the church into SonRock Kids Camp!
It is awesome to see when the body of Christ gets together to use their gifts and talents and work together to build His kingdom.

I think it was Jon Horne that said, "When you're in a Family Mart, your close to home." or something cheesy like that.
As has become our tradition with CCM, we stopped at Family Mart after the airport pick up.
Some of the returnees knew exactly what to get.

I am pretty sure we gave the workers that night a big surprise when 22 people all of a sudden invaded their quiet store.

Becca (blue dress) is a 3 time Okinawa/ Japan returnee! Her dad is a great guy and two years ago, they came together to serve. Shout and love to Noe!

Calvary Chapel Montebello team

For the past few years, we have been blessed by Calvary Chapel Montebello.
They send out a team that comes to help us with VBS and various outreaches.
This year's team was a group of graduated seniors that forewent their normal senior trip, so that they could come on a missions' trip to Okinawa and bless our kids and help in our outreach.
This is a great group and we are looking forward to all that God has in store with them, through them and in them!

That night, Jaci was sharing with the girls her testimony.
It has been a blessing to see and hear all that God has done and is doing in her life.

We were so blessed to see him again. Doogie is visiting for about a week.
He is attending Moody Bible College full time and came out to visit and just like the Doogie we all know, jumped right in to serving!

So if you've noticed that we are actually having some regular posts that is because God has blessed us with Jaci (pronounced 'jay-cee'). She has such a servant's heart. That's her in the green t-shirt with her just as equally awesome husband, Andrew. Both of them recently have given their hearts to the Lord fully and they haven't looked back! God is doing great things in their lives and using them in wonderful ways. Pray for Jaci, she will be sharing the gals at this Friday's Girl's Bible Study! Andrew has been plugging in and helping with our youth!

Solar Eclipse in Okinawa!

Today we experienced a solar eclipse. It wasn't a complete total one but good enough. I heard the best place to see it was in China. Anyways, it was still pretty cool. The last one I remember was back in 1988 or so. I was at Kadena High School standing in the parking lot with the rest of the school.

I tried to take a picture of it through a tinted glass but you can't see the crest.
So I took a picture of the tv that had it. :)

Summer Series

During the summer months we take a break from our usual CKC (calvary kids club) and have a special "Summer Series" for the kids. This Summer, we're having the High School and Middle School help run the entire program along with our youth leaders. This year the kids will learning about the wonders of our God. It will be a ton of fun and a great time in God's Word!

Join us each Wednesday night at 6pm for a great time of fellowship and food. We have a big family potluck dinner just hanging out and enjoying our time. Then at 7pm, the kids go to their place and the adults to the sanctuary where we continue our exciting trek through the Old Testament. Currently we're in the Book of Judges. Hope to you see you at 6pm!

David's Retirement from Marine Corps

We were blessed to be invited to David's Retirement Ceremony after 20+ years of faithful service in the US Marine Corps.
It was such an honor to be there and to see and hear of his dedication to the United States, his family and to the Lord.
He is a beloved brother in Christ and we are going to miss him and his wonderful family.

Firmly Planted - Women's Conference Pics

The gals had a great time on Saturday being strengthened in the Lord.
The title of conference was "Firmly Planted" and the emphasis was to be planted firm in the Lord in all areas of life.
They had specific workshops to encourage the gals in various ways.
There was a workshop for married gals, for single gals, a home-making workshop (Noemi taught it!), a workshop for our Japanese sisters on dealing with cultural and family pressures as a Japanese Okinawan Christian women, there was a fellowship time for the gals 40 years+, and one on dealing with difficulties that Amy & Amy taught!
All in all, it was a very blessed time. God gave great grace to the gals!

Women's Mini Conference - This Saturday, May 23rd

The ladies are planning a mini-conference (1/2 day) entitled "Firmly Planted". Please pray for the gals as they gather to be strengthened in their walk with Jesus. There will be workshops and general teaching sessions. Pray for the Japanese translation and we're having a special workshop for our Japanese sisters too! It should be a great time in the Lord.

Tuesday Morning Women's Bible Study

The Tuesday morning Women's bible study kicked off their new session this week.
God is doing a great work with the women @ calvary. what a blessing!
The bible study is "Women of the Word" and focuses on various women in the scripture. All you need is your bible!

the gals got high tech this session - here's jodi and ruth running the media, sound board and translation transmitter - all the studies are translated into japanese for our japanese speaking sisters.
the gals find their seats before the study begins...

the Lord brought nannette to help kristy a few months ago and she is a tremendous blessing. here she is teaching the word to the gals from genesis 2. she is a great bible teacher.

after the general session together, the gals break up into various small groups and share life application together from the earlier study - this gives the gals a chance to respond to the message and encourage each other in the Lord.

Easter 2009 Resurrection Sunday

The pictures are from our fellowship luncheon after 2nd service on Easter Sunday. Kerri Mills took some "pro" pics for us during the services, so I am waiting for her disk to come and will post more then, but hope you enjoy!

God blessed the whole day! We had a wonderful time of worship and praise. God moved in both services and people gave their hearts to Jesus for the first time! The message was from Luke 24. We had a blessed time afterwards just enjoying the fellowship of the believers.

During service the fellowship hall serves as an additional overflow room. We are blessed to be able to get a live feed downstairs and with Japanese translation too!

We rocked the double decker canopy action. God filled His house with His people and food!

Lauren and her sister, Caroline (we need to get pics from mom! the camera battery died) were baptized today. How exciting it is to see teens that are on fire for Jesus!

Here, Emma makes a public confession of her faith. She loves Jesus and He lives in her heart!

There's no sprinkling here at Calvary Okinawa. It's full emersion when you get baptizimo'd here! Don't worry, we let them up... eventually.

the ladies prayed for all the gals as they came out. there's always that sweetness of Jesus when God's kids get together to pray for another.

Here's the Furious Five. Well, maybe not furious but fun and filled with Jesus! What a blessed day it was. It doesn't get much better than this, does it? What a great God we serve!

What hinders me?

in the book of acts chapter 8, verse 36, the eunuch asked Philip after they saw some water, "See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?" Philip had just preached Jesus to this man. Philip replies in vs. 37, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And the man replied, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."

Today, we gathered at the beach to baptize 5 people that had come to faith in Jesus.
It was spontaneous as the account in Acts. "What hinders me?" a few asked...
Our reply, "Nothing, as long as you believe."
Their response, "See here, there is water" (and lots of it on Okinawa)
Our reply, "Praise God, let's do it!"

And we did... and what a blessed day it was. All that morning it was raining. But when we got to the beach, God held back the rain (just for these guys!) - we had a glorious time in worship and then celebrating this wonderful step of obedience in faith. Of course, you old timers know that as soon as we were done... guess what? Yup, it rained. I chuckled inside. Many a miracle God has done with the CCO, the rain and Araha Beach.
First was Andrew. He was smiling the whole time, ear to ear, even though the water was burrrr!

Then his lovely wife, Jaci. Jaci gave her heart to Jesus recently. What a great day for them both!

The guys prayed for the guys. We look forward to seeing all that God has planned for them.

Derek and Allison in town and out again...

We were so blessed to have Derek and Allison back out for a short visit. It is always a huge encouragement to see them. Please pray for them as they return to India to serve the Lord in helping to prepare for the Franklin Graham Festival in Chennai.

We got to go the Barrel Restaurant and have some yummy food.

What an incredible week of fellowship and sweet reunions. God is so good!

Mike shares at Wednesday Night

Okay, like forever now... we know... its nice to know that someone's looking and cares about the updates... thanks and much Jesus love to the peeps... let's begin...

Last Wednesday, we had a wonderful time of fellowship. We gather about 6pm for a dinner potluck together and then afterwards at 7pm, we all head up and out to service.

This past week was a super blessing. Mike Langley is visiting us from the states. God put a special message on Mike's heart to share with us. It's a two parter from John chapter 9. Part 1 was a blessing, we're all looking forward to Part 2.

Harvest Carnival 2008

We will be doing our annual Harvest Carnival again this year and we are excited to see what the Lord will do. Please pray for us. This is the first year in our new location, so we're not sure what to expect. Our vision and heart is 2-fold - (1) To give our own kids a safe, fun, Christ-centered alternative to Halloween. (2) To outreach to our neighborhood kids and friends. God has placed us in Nakagusuku Village, and we are in a residential area now. We are praying that many of the kids and their parents will come out and experience the "sweetness of Jesus" as we look to be a "bright light" on a dark night.

Sunday Night Concert "Amazed"

This past Sunday night, a good friend and dear brother, Pastor Vee held an outreach concert at Music Town Koza. Pastor Vee is a very gifted musician and the Lord has blessed his music ministry greatly. He has a heart to reach the lost through music and has a weekly radio broadcast as well in the Koza area. He just released his second album, "Amazed". He loves to do a variety of styles and will take old classic hymns and songs and add some crazy new flavor to them - all to the glory of God.

Wednesday Night Fellowship

Every Wednesday we gather together for a dinner fellowship (potluck style) before our bible study and prayer time. It is always a great time together in the Lord. This past Wednesday was Allison's last Wednesday with us, so we got her a cake. It's not a permanent good-bye but a "see you later".
Everyone brings a dish to share and there's always plenty of food. The fellowship time is awesome just hanging out and breaking bread together like the early church. That's Laura in the picture by the way- trip out on this! She and Kristy were in high school together at Corona High School! Laura's family is in the military and God brought them here. They have been plugged in Calvary Chapel for many years. We are so blessed God brought their family. Now I can get the real scoop on Kristy's high school days.
Look! Another wonderful gal has come from CC Montebello to serve the Lord with us here in Okinawa. We are so blessed to have Johanna back. She is teaching at Okinawa Christian School this year. Please pray for her first year there.
Ricardo was teaching Jason about the Marines. Jason, who is an Army Soldier said he is Army Strong. Ricardo said that ARMY stands for Ain't Ready to be a Marine Yet. Just kidding. They were just talking.

Ah ha. Here is the happy engaged couple. It was great having Derek down for a few days. He is always such an encouragement the guys here. Our Fellowship Hall gets a face lift!

We have been so blessed by all the new space God has given us. Our first floor houses our Fellowship Hall area where we gather to hang out, for bible study, for our Wednesday Night Potluck dinners, and all kinds of things. It is such a cool space but we just made it more lively with some splashes of color.
I couldn't get ahold of Paula J. fast enough or send pics to Mandy or Debbie- those that have professional interior design back-grounds but we just picked some fun colors and went for it.
Glenn said the blue and mustard remind him of the Boy Scout colors. Chris said it was like Chevy's Mexican Restaraunt. Everyone's a critic.

Special Prayer Request for Hallelujah

Hey guys, could you please pray for our little buddy, Hallelujah. Not only does he have a cool name but he is a cool kid. Last year, he went through a series of chemo and radiation treatment for cancer in his throat. A few weeks ago, when he went in for a check-up, the doctors found another mass in his throat and also in his lungs. The praise is that the mass in his throat was not malignant but the one in his lungs was. Please pray with us that our Good and Gracious God would bring healing to his body.

One of the blessings is that Hallelujah's dad, Yoshi works at the hospital. Hallelujah said that his dad would come and bring him a better lunch and Yoshi would eat Hallelujah's - that's the love of a good father.

Christianne was a missionary that was with us for a few years until God called her to Afghanistan to preach the Gospel there. After a few years there, the Lord brought her loving husband, Grant. Okay, I know it's been like FOREVER since the blog was updated - forgive me - this thing is like doing the lawn - never seem to have enough time in the day.... but I am stoked to put some fun new pics because Allison is here with us and has been taking some awesome shots.

Here are some from our Church Picnic Day at the Park. God blessed our day of fellowship BIG TIME and we enjoyed a wonderful day hanging out with the families of Calvary Okinawa.

We had a softball game and some of the families went swimming at the park pool and others enjoyed the day the Lord gave us in sweet fellowship.

Here the McCords are kicking back chatting with Dwight and Maggie. Dwight is a Sergeant Major in the Marine Corps and Maggie just got a new job at the hospital working with military folks returning from deployment. Both families have been a huge blessing to the fellowship.

The Newlons and Jodie Harmon hang out and enjoy getting to know each other.
Erin stopped by after her 40 mile bike ride! Erin is a tri-athlete and bikes, swims and runs some serious mileage every week. She and her family have been so awesome. Erin gave her life to Jesus this past Easter and was baptized the following week. She has continued to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. It was simply a great day in the Lord.

We are so blessed to live here on Okinawa and have such a awesome church family. Plus - we're thinking of getting a church softball game going... we got some serious players here. :)

After the conference, a group of us headed out to the city. We were blessed to hook up with our good friends Joseph from Montebello and Chihiro and Pastor Chizuo.
The streets were packed with folks on the last night of Golden Week.
Joseph is not a shy guy. We saw this bear walking across the street. Our first reaction was "Glenn, where did you get that hat?" then we realized, "oh, it's not Glenn, this bear is smiling too much."

We got to hang with the boys from Iwakuni too! It was a fun time.

Calvary Chapel Japan Conference - Arrived

This year the conference was held at Yoyogi Olympic Park and it was awesome. We had a wonderful time studying through the book of Galatians. "Set Free to Serve" was our theme. Not only was it a good time in the Word but also in Worship and in Fellowship and breaking bread with the body of Christ.

Jim Stewart and his lovely wife, Lo came over from Kansas City to be our main guest speakers. They did a great job encouraging us in the faith and our calling to serve.
We met up with Stomer on our trip. He's plugged with Calvary Kokubunji now and Chizuo has him on the straight and narrow. We miss Yasutomo Juan Y Miyagi tons but were so grateful to hang with him for a few days.

100 Yen Sushi Go Round

Takako was craving sushi so Masaru took us to this famous 100 yen sushi place in Shibuya. It was jam packed with people but we waited for our turn and taste of the famous 100 yen fish.
Normally Masaru is a moderate kind of eater. Nothing too crazy, except when it comes to sushi. He can chow down on a serious note with the best of the heavies when it comes to sushi.
This is one of the funner experiences of dining in Japan. The plates go round and round and you take what you want and let pass by what you don't. The coolest thing is that Glenn actually was game! The bad thing was I put my camera away and didn't get any documented proof of his visit. Don't worry he didn't eat any real sushi- cooked maguro, egg, shrimp and a fruit juice... I think that was his selections.
The chefs in the middle were busy all night making the fine delicacies of raw fish and rice.
We had a blast. You had to eat at least 7 plates worth or they would chop off your finger. Well, okay, I don't know what they would do but Glenn did 7 plates. (Yoko had to "donate" one to him) He offered to repay the favor at "All You Can Eat BBQ" next time.

Calvary Chapel Japan Conference -Our journey out

A small group of us set out on Sunday after service to travel up to Tokyo for the annual Calvary Japan Conference. At the airport, we ran into Calvary Naha's crew. It was good to see the brothers.

This year, the entire Naka family came up. It was a blessing to fellowship with them.
Please pray for them as they continue to serve in our Japanese ministry.
Pastor Masaru says I have no antenna. He is right. We are thankful that he were able to travel with him through the subways and streets of Tokyo. He is a great tour guide.
Look at all them people! It was the beginning of Golden Week here in Japan. The city of Shibuya was packed with people. Its always a neat place to visit but I am glad I don't live in the city.

saying goodbye is never easy

It's coming again. That time of the year when they begin to move. The military call it "PCS season" when Uncle Sam says your time is up and you gotta go. It's always bitter sweet. Last week we prayed for Ashley and the Prutch family. We already miss them big time.

We also prayed for Ed & Lauren, pictured here. Along the way, God blessed them with cute little Caden. We got to dedicate him a few weeks ago. It was wonderful.

Please pray for us and our hearts. A little peice of it breaks off each time a family moves on. We are grateful that God has allowed us to minister in such a wonderful place with wonderful people.

I look forward to that day, when there will be no more "good byes" or "sayonara's". As they said back in the day, "See you here or there or in the air!" Love you all.

How could I forget that God has brought us to one of the most beautiful places in all His creation? Today was one of those days that we were just blessed by dear friends and the incredible island God has called us to.
Pictured above is my beautiful bride on a secluded beach on the east side of Okinawa.
A very dear couple, Mark & Suwanee asked if they could renew their wedding vows here on the beach. They will be leaving us this summer and wanted to honor the Lord for their marriage and recommit to each other on the same island that they were married before they depart to the states. I was blessed by them and for them.
Mark is a military pilot and Suwanee is professional photographer. I think she would not be too happy since I got a picture with their eyes closed but they still look good.

The Place where God has Chosen

God has been so gracious to us. As many of you know, a few months ago we were heading towards being without a home for our church. We had searched high and low, all the while praying and seeking the Lord in His Will for the place He had for us. The theme of our time was amplified by our weekly bible study in Deuteronomy by the repeated phrase "That you may worship... that you may prosper.. that you may obey... in the place where the Lord your God chooses to make His name abide."
Well, God in His faithfulness and perfect timing, did in deed, show us the place where He chose for us to make His name abide.
And we are grateful.

The plan at the time was that this was going to be a temporary holding place for us. There was another building that we were interested in but was not going to be available until June of this year. So, we moved in here to the Beauty School with the intentions of moving on shortly after. But God has led us to remain and stay longer. We are excited about the near future and the neighborhood God placed us in. It is very rural unlike our old spot. We are in the middle of this little village with great opportunity to shine the light of Jesus.

Proverbs says that the plans of the heart belong to men but God directs his steps. So, we are trusting that God has directed our steps in this new step of faith.

Please pray with us. The first floor of the building has become available. The owners wanted to rent to us but at a high rate. We prayed and asked for a much lower amount - more than half in fact - and guess what? They said "okay". Okay!.. Okay... that means we now will be spreading out alittle more and taking over the first floor as well. It is very exciting and there is crazy space for us to do some really fun things. The picture above is the office space which also has three other additional office spaces, plus a tatami room, kitchen, shower room. There is a large meeting room as well all on the right side.

On the left side is the open meeting area where our Planet 45 kids meet already plus three large class rooms that all connect and open up to one huge room. Needless to say, we are once again just blessed out of our flip flops at God's provision and goodness.
So with it comes ideas of a sweet fellowship area - coffee shop - bookstore - kinda - deal but we'll see what God has in store.

The owners want to sell us the building and we are praying if this is what God would have for us. Would you join us in praying for this as well?

Men's Ministry Retreat "Building God's House"

A small group of the guys were able to get away for our men's ministry retreat. the focus of this retreat is to encourage and equip the men of Calvary that are feeling led into full time ministry.
Glenn and I taught through the book of 1 Timothy. We entitled it "Building God's House".
we were blessed as Damian led in our worship times.
we met up north at eco park. God blessed us with a beautiful weekend and we had some great time of study, fellowship, prayer, food, worship and hearing from the Lord. During one of the free times, Ken taught us how to play "bouchie ball" - we had a blast.
We met outside in the courtyard of the cabin we stayed in.
It also had a large meeting room inside where we ate and fellowshipped. This is was from one of our sessions in the morning.
during the afternoon on friday, we went to this huge fresh water lake (i did not know that okinawa had one!) and we got to kayak and have a neat time with the brothers.

Wednesday Night Fellowship

Every Wednesday night we gather before bible study for a time of fellowship and sharing meals.
There is always plenty of food and it is always yummy. Normally, I don't eat before I teach but lately, the dishes have tempted me to partake.
Allen and Jaime were down from Iwakuni! We were so blessed by their visit. They fellowship at Calvary Chapel Iwakuni with Mike & Sonya. Allen is one of Mike's key guys.
With Joe's surgery (please pray for his recovery and healing), God has been blessing us by stirring others to step up and minister their gifts with the body. Recently, Crystal has been leading in worship and we are so thankful to the Lord.
Everyone says, "Check out that pink guitar!".

Okinawa Children's Ministry Festival

Recently one Saturday afternoon, we joined with many other Okinawan churches to help with an island wide Children's Festival. We were honored to be invited. God has blessed us with ministry to both English and Japanese speaking kids and adults.
There were outside and inside activities & events.
We were asked to run the outside game booths and such. Many thanks to all of those that came out to be a blessing to the body of Christ. It was a great day. No one was there to promote a church or denomination- it was about uplifting the name of Jesus Christ and reaching out the kids He loves.

Beach Baptisms

God blessed us with an incredible day to gather at the beach and worship and rejoice with those that decided to be baptized.
We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day.
The brothers and sisters in Christ gather around those that were baptized to pray for them and over them.
Please pray for Calvary Okinawa and the 8 folks that were baptized this day. Some say that the number "8" is significant and represents "new beginnings". It was our prayer that this day was the mark of a "new beginning" for these our precious family in Christ.
It was a great day in the Lord. An entire family came forward to be baptized. Mom & Dad went first and then baptized their children with us. One dear brother, Michael came out fully dressed in his clothes and shoes and all... Erin, a neat gal that was saved on Easter came out and has jumped in with both feet in following Jesus.
The water was amazing. The day was blessed. What a great place to make this commitment.
The beaches on Okinawa are pretty nice.

Damian visits Okinawa

Please pray for Steve and his family. Steve is still deployed in Afghanistan. He sent this picture of his crew and to show us the snow there. He has several more weeks until he returns to Oki. Noah turns 9!!! Yikes

It is one of those weird realities that sneaks up on you. You have a kid... kids... and your first-born is now nine. Nine. It is hard to believe. Just as all those before me warned me and told me- the time will fly. It has. If God should lead him to depart at 18 or his mom gives him the boot, we are at the half-way mark- that is weird. We are grateful for the joy that God blessed us with nine years ago.

Oh yes, McDonald's McFlurry was on the top of the "what would you like for your birthday?" list. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I know. BTW. They didn't have "Strawberry Shortcake" but "Double Chocolate" was just as nice.

"Ja Mata" to the Petersen's

Last Sunday, we said "See you later" to Justin and Mary Petersen. They are leaving to Texas for 3 years and are praying about what God would have for them after. God has given them a heart for missions and has been stirring their hearts for the country of Turkey. Please pray for this wonderful couple. We miss them much but are excited for them in this new season.
There are many things we will miss about them.... Justin's quick, dry wit... his corny jokes... Mary's punchy-ness (Justin says she has a fire in her belly).... his intellectual, yet easy to understand teaching of the Foundations Class.... Middle Eastern food... Shadow.... Mary's cool tatoo... and all the fun we had about Star Trek.
Justin sent these pix when the arrived in Minnesota to visit family before heading to Texas.

Allison is a dear friend here visiting from Calvary Chapel Monetebello! We are so excited that the Lord has led her to Okinawa several times. This visit was about a month long, and she has been helping serve the church in many ways. The Lord has blessed her in graphic design and photography. Kevin and Hallelujah

Hallelujah is a youth kid in our church who was recently diagnosed with a cancerous lump in his throat. He has been in Osaka getting chemo therapy and radiation for treatment. Kevin (his youth pastor) and Pastor Rick were able to take a couple days to visit him. It was an encouraging time for Hallelujah and his family to spend time together. Please continue to keep him in your prayers! We are looking forward to having him come back to Okinawa soon!

Korean Worship Team Comes to Okinawa!

We were blessed to have a Korean Worship Team come and visit us. They are with Campus Crusade for Christ. Every year, they travel all around the island and minister to people with the gifts God has given them. We were their first stop before they started their tour. Before worship, they filled up on the awesome grub we have on Wednesday nights before service.

Allison was able to get a quick shot of them while they were practicing, and doing sound. We truly had a fun and encouraging time as they led us in worship.

A Pleasant Visit

Just recently we had Ryuko Fujita,(on the right) Maria Williamson,( Middle) and Kayo (front middle) come and hang out with us for a bit. These girls graduated from OCSI in 2002, and just finished college. It was so good to see them and catch up. Kayo has been actively involved at Calvary Chapel Ginowan and is such a blessing! Ryuko will be staying here in Okinawa, seeking the Lord for what He has next. We want to say CONGRATULATIONS to Maria who is going back to the states and getting married! God Bless you girls!

Dedication Sunday Luncheon Fellowship

After our first Sunday in the new building, we had a Dedication Luncheon to thank God for all the blessings he has bestowed upon us.

It was a wonderful time. Sandwiches, Chips, Soda, Friends and Family and Awesome Fellowship.

And A New Season Begins....

Things have been very busy here. We have moved from our old building which, as you can see, is no more. This picture was taken on December 8th in the morning and by the end of the day the old church was gone.

Here is a close-up of the sun rise. As the old building is fading away, the rising sun reminds us that a new day is coming. We look forward to the new season God has for us in the new church building.
The Japanese take a lot of time to plan and they do it well. Once the planning is over and the work begins, they don't waste any time. I believe this picture was taken on Sunday or Monday afternoon. There is nothing left of the old building, but a pile of crushed concrete.
We have been blessed beyond comprehension. Here is the building God has placed us in for the next season. It is currently a beauty school, but they will be closing their doors over the next two Japanese school years. The Japanese school year runs from March to March each year.

We get to use the entire third floor, half of the second floor and one other room on Wednesdays and Sundays. In April, we will be able to use the entire first floor as well.

Harvest Carnival 2007

Ms. Tammy headed up the Cake Walk and it was awesome. We had sooooo many cakes, pies, cookies and goodies- (thank you so much - all you bakers!).
Our purpose for having the Carnival is as much outreach to the community as in-reach to our own kids. This year we saw a great number of Okinawan and Japanese kids and parents come out for the event. We were able to pass out tracts, videos and share the gospel in small group and one-on-one settings. That night, a half-Okinawan man came with his kids for candy but found something much sweeter- Jesus and surrendered his life to Christ!
Some kids that came out were from the "Danchi" area (subsidized apartments) behind the church where we have done several outreaches with various teams. Some of the kids came back that weekend and came to church on Sunday!
We were blessed by several groups that came out to be a part with us.
The Harbor, Hansen Christian Center, Kingdom Outreach Ministries (seen above), Noah Community Church and CCBC Okinawa/CCGinowan worship.
This was the bounce house guy... he looked like our good brother Steve Gaines, so we took a picture. We miss you Steve!!!

Harvest Carnival 2007

This year's Harvest Carnival was over the top! God just totally blessed the night with incredible weather (it was "suppose" to rain) and packed the place all night long! It was great.
Dressed up or not, it didn't matter, we had a blast sharing the love and light of Christ on a dark night.
This was our "Knock the Idols Down" game. Sometimes even the "ghetto games" can be the most fun.
The Jr. High crew aka "Tsunami" made a "plinko" type game called "The Valley of the Shadow of Death" game. It was really cool, especially since the kids made the entire game themselves (with some help from the Johnson's)
Keeping the tradition alive- the High School group aka "TC-1" manned the food booth and was able to raise some funds for upcoming ministry events. Big time thank you to the Merrill's.

Surprise Appreciation Potluck

Kristy and I returned for Sunday services (thank you Roy Toma for teaching!) and were taken by surprise. Glenn and a few diabolical others had organized a surprise church potluck. We were so blessed. Normally I would be upset with Glenn for such things but it was Mexican food themed... it's just impossible to have yummy enchiladas and be upset. Thanks everyone.
God gave us a beautiful day to be outside and partake of the festivities.

Toni & Caroline blessed us with a special song. Toni composed, Joe played the music and Caroline sang- it was very beautiful and filled our hearts with gratitude to God for such an incredible church family.
All in all, it was a fantastic finale to a wonderful weekend that God blessed us with.
Thank you to everyone who was a part of the conspiracy :) We are so blessed.

10 Year Wedding Anniversary

On October 18th, Kristy and I celebrated 10 wonderful years of marriage. I am so thankful to the Lord for blessing me with such an incredible wife and terrific mother to our 4 beautiful children. We count it an honor and blessing to be here in Okinawa for almost 7 years now and to have had the privilege of sharing in God's goodness with so many. God has truly done exceedingly and abundantly above all that we could have ever asked or thought. Thank you Jesus for Your blessings upon our lives.
We farmed off the kids for the weekend and went up to the north of the island. We were so blessed because we were able use our travel mileage coupons for ANA at the Manza Resort Hotel. We didn't stay there but we were able to use the coupons for dinners and for Kristy's pedicure and stuff like that.
Kristy ordered a 50 dollar steak! Praise God we had those mileage gift certificates but we almost died when it arrived. Look at how small that thing is! "Where's the beef?" as those old Wendy's commercials used to ask. The steak was a "Yanbaru Beef". They said it was like Okinawa's version of Kobe steak. I don't know if it was worth 50 bucks but it was very yummy.
We got to hang around the Manza Hotel and enjoy the beautiful weather God provided.
On Kristy's birthday, we went to a dinner show buffet. The show was pretty good- it highlighted Okinawan music and culture. The buffet was all Okinawan food, which we love, so it was a great dinner.
The weater up in the Nago area was beautiful. We were so blessed.

Prayer Request for fires in So Cal

There are several military families that were a very special part of our church here in Okinawa that now live in the Southern California area near San Diego and Camp Pendleton. With the fires in the area, they have asked for prayers for protection and comfort. Would you please add to your prayers the Loquist family, the Fisher family, the Garcia family, the Sotingco family, the Rutter family, Mike Ubuco (did you ever get married yet?), the Reedy family and the Wheelers.

Derek in Korea

Look at Derek! He looks so GQ! He could be the next James Bond. As many of you know, Derek is in Korea right now serving the Lord with the Franklin Graham Festival folks. God has used him in a powerful and incredible way. We are so blessed for him and proud of him.

We spoke to Derek today and he said that he will be home (back in Oki) in a few weeks and then he's off to Hong Kong for the Franklin Festival there. He will return to Okinawa afterwards and then on to Taipei. Please continue to pray for this young man. I cannot wait to see what else God has in store for him!

Harvest Carnival 2008

The other day, I took the kids to the Okinawa City Zoo. It is quite an experience - if you live on Okinawa and you have never been- you have to go.

Anyways, when we were leaving I saw this billboard poster advertising Halloween. My family and I have been here now for almost 7 years and when we first came, there was very little to nothing of Halloween in the Japanese markets but now- more and more, stores and businesses and the Okinawan community is embracing this holiday and incorporating it. What an amazing process to watch. They've taken all in too- the witches, the bats, the jack-o-laterns, etc. and of course, the candy.
So... what a wonderful opportunity to continue to shine the Light of Jesus Christ on a dark day. While the stores and the world continues to spread its poison, we want to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to "declare the praises of Him who called us out darkness and into His marvelous light".
So... if you can, we'd love to see you on Wednesday night from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. We will have all kinds of booths, 3 jump bounce houses (even one for jr. highers only!), live music and just taking the opportunity to "light the night".
We are praying for good weather like last year and really just for a great time. We're blessed that this year, the Harbor, Hansen Christian Center, Noah Community Church and Kingdom Outreach Ministries and Hakugaijin band will be joining us in our effort to not only in-reach to our own kids but to outreach to our community here. See you there!

New! Young Ladies Bible study starts up

Please pray with us and for Ashley (pictured on the left). Ashley recently finished CCBC in Jerusalem and returned to Okinawa. She is one of the missionary staff and does a great number of things serving the Lord here at church. This past week, we started up a new young gals bible study at Ashley's house. We are looking forward to seeing what God will do in the lives of His precious daughters.

Tsunami ministry outing

Normally, our Jr. High ministry called "Tsunami" meets Sunday mornings for both the 8:30 & 10:30am services. Kevin and Katie Johnson are our ministry leaders and are doing a great job.
When the students meet on Friday nights or other times, we call it "Tsunami-Extra" and its a great time of fellowship, encouragement, strengthening relationships with each other and the Lord.
After dinner, the gals piled in some vans and went out for a favorite Okinawan past-time - Karaoke!
Some of the girls got really into it.
Here it looks like the whole group was singing their hearts out! Future worship singers in the making!

Please pray for the Longoria Family. The dad, Jesus, has left for training for several months. He will be back in December for a short visit and then on to Iraq for the war. The family is doing well and the girls are sad but also encouraged in the Lord knowing that God is doing a wonderful work in and through them all! The twins graduate this year and Jesus may miss it in person. I know they would appreciate your prayers. Thanks!
